Why We Need Political Parties - Free Essay Example
Political parties are a group of political activists who organize to win elections, operate the government, and determine public policy. The difference with interest group from political parties is that, interest groups objective is to influence policy makers or political decision and they do not run the government. Political parties are necessary to set value on what they are running for and dont have to create a new party again. Parties give something to attach to, or align more/less political trial, and give somewhere to go. Although they present opposing views during their nomination speech to get more people on their side, eventually the parties competing for position in the government have to put their differences aside to operate the government issues and work for the people. We do need political parties in the democratic republic to organize things in congress, to appoint the committees, and to set an agenda. Without political parties, there would be conflicts among people in the society and national development would not take place to this extent that we have today. Parties help gather group of like-minded people and this helps to bring about the necessary changes to make progress in the country. If there was no sense of unity among millions of people, there would be smaller sub division of people rather than the size of members supporting a party (which are relatively large at a national scale compared to broken scale of sub division which would be down to the size of a community or a district) with very little idea to see the bigger picture of what a whole nation can accomplish together. Therefore, with a broader view more permanent changes like establishing a constitution can take place when there is a party. Thus, a nation will run more peacefully, and necessary developments can take place with a vision of shaping the future of upcoming generation and growth can take place. Furthermore, the very government education, health facilities, the roads, etc., that we take for granted would not have been there if there were no political parties. The whole country would remain rural and wont make much needed progress in science and technologies which are the engine of prosperity. There would be primitive mindset and a nation would be clogged like how North Korean society had been without connection to the rest of the world. With so much of inequality between people on rich vs poor there would be no respect of an individuals strengths and abilities. Nation would stay in the dark with conflicts for resources and power as we as a human are naturally inclined to behave, would happen more frequently. If political parties were obsolete, the American politics might look like that of some underdeveloped poor countries in the southern hemisphere. More crimes would take place and there would be no system of justice. There would be nobody to keep the nation in check in terms of respecting ones hard work and professionalism would not take place. With so much corruption and tyranny in absence of unity among people, there would be no representative model to lead and guide the nation to from a civilization we live today.
